Cut & Stitch – DIY Floor Cushion/Dog Bed

Image

I could never seem to find a dog bed that I actually liked the look of, and considering our dog Ziggy sleeps in our room I wanted something that matched our bedroom décor. So when I saw this awesome post on the Mandy Made blog (http://mysticmandy.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/giant-floor-pillows.html) I jumped at the chance to make my own.  You could of course use these as floor cushions instead, great in the lounge room for extra seating on movie nights.

I used 90% recycled materials for this one – a vintage tablecloth I already had, stuffed the pillows with a mix of old towels & clothes that were on their way to Vinnies and a couple of cushion inserts I had lying around. The stuffing works better with the rag’s as the dense filling fills out the corners and gives it structure. The only supplies I bought was 2m of the Chevron Print fabric which was on clearance at Spotlight. Total spend for the project = $9!

The size of my pillows varied slightly to Mandy’s simply because that was all the fabric I had! My large one is 25’ x 7’ and the small is 20’ x 6’.

Ziggy is very happy with his new digs!
